Mission CISD wins many awards at the Area-1 Special Olympics Texas Basketball Competition

 

  Area 1-Special Olympics Texas Basketball Competition held at Sharyland Pioneer High School on Saturday March 2, 2019. Over 20 delegations totaling 850 athletes from across the Rio Grande Valley competed at this event. Mission CISD had 39 athletes participate in the competition.  They competed, interacted, and cheered along with other athletes as they put forth their best effort for the gold!

 

  Various medals were earned and all of our athletes came back home with huge smiles on their faces.  The competition was broken down into two events: Individual Skills and Team Competition. In the Individual Skills competition the athletes performed a variation of either a timed 10-meter dribble or a 60 second speed dribble, a target pass drill, and a spot shooting drill.  As for the team competition, there were 2 divisions that consisted of 12 teams total.

Mission High School

Vianney Campos (1st Place), Marcus Eguia (4th Place), Brandon Garza (3rd Place), Jaqueline Porcayo (3rd Place), Adrian Rodriguez (2nd Place), and Ana Villarreal (1st Place), Emily Gonzalez (2nd Place), Mary Lee Martinez (1st Place), Jacklyn Bernal (1st Place), and Blas Rodriguez (3rd Place).

Veterans Memorial High School

Cesario Pena (2nd Place), Sally Trevino (1st Place), Jazmin Villanueva (1st Place), Kevin Cab (1st Place), Angel Rivera (2nd Place), Alan Romero (4th Place), Hayleen Pena (2nd Place), and Jaquelina Mata (3rd Place).  

Mission Jr. High

Yulitza Mendoza (1st Place), Jamilee Hernandez (1st Place), Arely Lopez (2nd Place), Marco Mandujano (2nd Place), and Stephanie Gomez (3rd Place).

Ralph Cantu Middle School

Gerardo Obregon (3rd Place), and Jose Manuel Perez (3rd Place).

K-White Jr. High

Javier Lopez (1st Place), Angelica Villarreal (3rd Place), and Ruby Tovar (2nd Place)

Team Competition (5-on-5 Tournament)

Team Mission earned 1st Place in their division! The team was formed with athletes from Mission High School, Veteran’s Memorial High School, K-White Jr. High, and Raphael Cantu Jr. High.
