Mission, Texas- Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) has announced the names of its Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year. The announcement was made during a special luncheon today, honoring the Teachers of the Year for each of the district’s schools.
The Mission CISD Elementary Teacher of the Year is Irma R. Gomez from Midkiff Elementary School. Gomez has been been a teacher for 48 years, all with Mission CISD. She currently teaches Kindergarten.
The Mission CISD Secondary Teacher of the Year is Amparo Rosales from Mission Collegiate High School. Rosales teaches Physical Education and Health and has six years of teaching experience. She has been in her current position for four years.
These two teachers were selected by a panel of judges consisting of a cross-section of the Mission CISD area communities. Gomez and Rosales will now represent Mission CISD as Teachers of the year during the next school year. They will also be entered into the Region One Teacher of the Year contest, which is affiliated with the state and national programs. The applications used by Mission CISD are the same ones used in those programs. They include information on the teachers, like: professional background, educational history, and several questions that delve into their teaching approaches, and thoughts on issues impacting the teaching profession.

Vasquez, Leal Elementary School; Sara Wilson, Marcell Elementary School; Elvira Villarreal, Mims Elementary School; Pearl Cantu, O’Grady Elementary School; Jessica Hernandez, Pearson Elementary School; Rigoberto Botello, Salinas Elementary School; Maria G. Barrera, Waitz Elementary School; Guadalupe Tijerina, Alton Memorial Jr. High School; Criselda Muñoz, K. White Jr. High School; Elizabeth Tuttle, Mission Jr. High School; Monica Ibarra, R. Cantu Jr. High School; Ana L. Estrada, Mission High School; Andres Ayala, Veterans Memorial High School; David Martinez, Options Academy; Liliana Barth, Roosevelt Alternative School.
