Mission CISD recognizes athletes at Special Olympics Banquet

   Mission CISD Special Education hosted their Special Olympics Banquet on Friday, May 24, 2019 to recognize the athletes that participated in various sports. Over eighty students were presented with certificates for their accomplishments. Ms. Tahnee Netro, Special Education Director, welcomed attendees to the special event.

                                                                                                                                                                                   

   “Good evening and thank you all for coming this evening to this event where we recognize and honor all our athletes for participating in various Special Olympics events,” stated Ms. Tahnee Netro.  “Tonight, is a night of recognition and celebration for all our athletes.”

 

   Parents and students were in attendance for the 80’s themed event. Many of the students, teachers, and parents wore their best threads that reflected the era of the 80's and were excited to take pictures. The evening ended with some awesome 80's music and dancing. 

 

   Certificates were awarded to the students which were called by campus and then a total of 10 lettermen jackets were presented to the following students: Marcus Eguia (MHS), Adrian Lopez (MHS), Javier Alonzo (VMHS), Maria R. Cavazos (VMHS), Deah K. Eslinger (VMHS), Jacquelina A. Mata (VMHS), Javier Patiño (VMHS), Hector Sanchez (VMHS), Robert D. Torres (VMHS), and Sally Treviñ0 (VMHS).

 

   The Special Education department also named the 2019 Female and Male athletes of the Year, Rising Star Athletes, Most Improved Athlete, and Sportsmanship Award. The following students received those awards; MHS Male Athlete of the Year- Marcus Eguia, Female Athlete of the Year- Jacquelyn Porcayo, VMHS Male Athlete of the Year – Javier Alonzo, Female Athlete of the Year-Deah K. Eslinger, Sportsmanship Award- Javier Patiño (VMHS), Most Dedicated Athlete- Cesario Peña (VMHS), Most Improved Athlete- Jacquelina Mata (VMHS), Rising Star Awards- Javier Lopez (K. White Jr. High), Yulitza Mendoza (Mission Jr. High), and Gerardo Obregon (R. Cantu Jr. High). All the Special Olympics athletes also received a certificate of participation from the following campuses Mission High School, Veterans Memorial High School, K. White Jr. High, Mission Jr. High, and Rafael Cantu Jr. High.

  Congratulations to all the students that participated in the various sports throughout the year!
