Mission CISD receives donation for the Summer Meal Program

Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) Child Nutrition Program accepted a generous donation from the local Sharyland Walmart. The company issued Mission CISD an $80.00 gift card and a pallet of assorted stuffing. The idea for a donation originated with Valerie Montemayor (Walmart employee) when she saw the district’s mobile meal bus and the children lined up waiting to get in to eat their meal.

Montemayor said that she was so impressed that she took that information back to her Manager at Walmart and told him they had to do something to help this project.  He agreed and they decided to present Mission CISD with a gift card and stuffing. Montemayor said that the district is doing a great thing for our kids.

“Mission CISD has been doing the summer meal program for over 20 years but this is the first year with the mobile units,” states Rosy Woodrum, Child Nutrition Program Director.

This year’s program has expanded to more locations and also includes special school buses that have been converted into mobile cafeterias.
