Mission CISD School Health Advisory Council named to the top 5 in the state

Mission Consolidated Independent School District School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is an award recipient for their efforts in maintaining healthy school communities. The district was presented with the Empowering Health in School Communities 2019 SHAC Award.

 

Every year the SHAC in Action selects five councils from throughout the state for their school health advisory organizations from a pool of applicants. They use a set criteria in the selection process that includes: number of active council members, number of participating students and parents, frequency of meetings, reporting practices, number of issue areas addressed and accomplishments for this school year.

 

Each winning district receives two free registrations for the 2019 Healthier Texas Summit (TAHK) with a travel stipend and one free registration for the 2020 Texas Action for Healthy Kids Summit. The TAHK summit will be held in Austin, Texas at the beginning of November.

 

The MCISD SHAC functions collaboratively with parents, community members as well as district administrators. Those recognized are as follows: Chair- Catherine Pena (parent representative), Co-Chair: Nicole Robbins (parent representative), Brenda K. Betancourt (secondary principal), Dora Villalobos (elementary principal), Petra Ramirez (Board representative), Rosy Woodrum (nutrition services), Jesse Trevino (counseling/ mental health services), Nancy Villarreal (parent and community involvement), Ysenia Trevino (health services), and Martina Carrillo (physical education /health education).
