Mission CISD to hold pre-k pre-registration round up for 2020-2021 full-day programs

Mission, Texas- All Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) elementary schools are recruiting students for this fall’s pre-k3, pre-k4 programs. A special round up, pre-registration drive for the 2020-2021 school year will be held on February 19 and 20 from 8:00-11:00 a.m. and 1:00-3:00 p.m. at each Mission CISD elementary school.

Mission CISD elementary schools offer a full-day pre-k4 program with no language or income requirements. Students to be registered for the pre-k4 program must turn four years of age prior to September 1, 2020. One the round up days, parents need to bring a valid form of identification (for the parent), the child’s birth certificate, child’s social security card (if available), child’s immunization records, and proof of residence (like an water bill or utility bill).

The district’s pre-k3 program is expanding this fall to include all elementary schools and will also be a full-day program. However, students for the pre-k3 program must meet state eligibility requirements. Students for pre-k3 must be at least three years of age on September 1, 2020. The state eligibility requirements for the pre-k3 student also includes: unable to speak and comprehend the English language, be eligible for National School Lunch Program. Other criteria that can qualify a student for the pre-k3 program include: be the child of an active duty member of the armed forces or the reserves, been in foster care, is the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award-qualifying peace officers, firefighters, or emergency medical first responders. Out-of-district transfers for the pre-k3 program will only be accepted if the child has a sibling already attending a Mission CISD school. The out-of-district transfer in this case would also need to meet state eligibility requirements. The children of Mission CISD employees will not have to meet the state eligibility requirements beyond the age requirement to be three years of age on or before September 1, 2020.

The Mission CISD pre-k programs offer dual-language instruction that can continue with the student through fifth grade, with teachers who meet standards for highly qualified designations. These teachers offer individualized instruction through a research-based curriculum. The Mission CISD pre-k programs also benefit from the district’s technology initiatives.

Interested parents can go to the closest elementary school to take part in the Pre-K Roundup on those dates, and bring along the required documentation. For more information about registering for the pre-k3 or pre-k4 programs, contact any Mission CISD elementary school, or call 956-323-5578.
