Mission CISD Announces School Closures

March 17, 2020

Since the beginning of the spread of COVID-19 in the United States, and in the best interest of our students, staff and community, Mission CISD has been following the decision tree provided by the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Guidance from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) through conference calls was to follow the CDC guidelines, and not to close schools prematurely.

In recent days events have been changing rapidly and overnight reports have surfaced of the first case of COVID-19 in Laredo, which is within the Region One area.  Therefore, in collaboration with our stakeholders, we are now keeping our schools closed until further notice.

Please note that before Spring Break our curriculum staff prepared instructional materials both web-based and handouts for our students. These materials are being duplicated and will be available for distribution soon. In the coming days, we will be announcing more information about how students can access our digital instructional content and instructional packets, grab-and-go meals for students, mobile locations for meal pick-up, and more.

An emergency meeting of the Board of Trustees has been scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on today, March 17 to address operational issues relating to our responses to COVID-19 now, and in the future.

As this is a continually developing situation, things may change, so please continue to monitor official district and campus websites and communication. We appreciate your support as we strive to provide for the needs of our students and staff.

Thank you for your patience and support and stay safe.
