VMHS Robotics students win Gold!

Veterans Memorial High School Robotics seniors, Rosendo Zamora and Noah Ramos, competed in the Skills USA Texas hosted at Texas State Technical College in February and won gold in the category of Robotics: Urban Search & Rescue Challenge.

The two-member team created an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), a mobile robot similar to the ones used by emergency service personnel (fire, police, and military). The robot is designed to secure an area by locating, neutralizing, moving, and disposing of explosive materials.

The competition evaluates skills of participants in preparation for employment in the area related to and including robotics, engineering, automation, manufacturing, electronics, and emergency services. It also recognizes outstanding performance by participants in scenarios that require problem solving and teamwork in a real‐world situation.

Zamora and Ramos have been involved in robotics since they were both in 9th grade under the STEM courses. They are currently enrolled in the STEM Practicum class and both are looking into pursuing a degree in the engineering field.
