Mission CISD announces outdoor in-person commencement ceremonies for high schools

Mission, Texas- The graduating seniors of the Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) high schools will get an in-person commencement ceremony to end their academic careers with the district. Superintendent Dr. Carol G. Perez has announced the schedule for outdoor, in-person ceremonies for Mission Collegiate High School, Mission High School, and Veterans Memorial High School. All ceremonies will be held at Tom Landry Hall of Fame Stadium.

Mission Collegiate High School commencement ceremonies will be held on Friday, May 29 at 8:30 a.m.

Mission High School commencement ceremonies will be held on Friday, May 29 at 8:00 p.m.

Veterans Memorial High School commencement ceremonies will be held on Saturday, May 30 at 8:00 p.m.

Strict guidelines from the Texas Education Agency will be followed to help address health and safety concerns. These guidelines will include, limited seating (4 tickets per graduate), proper social distancing, before, during, and after the ceremonies, proper wearing of face coverings, etc. More details regarding specifics on tickets, seating, etc. will be shared by each campus with graduates and their families the coming days.

Normal Tom Landry Stadium rules will also be enforced. Those include, the use of metal detectors, no backpacks, no outside food or drinks, etc. 

Parents and high school seniors were recently surveyed about their preferences of the options available to the district from the Texas Education Agency. The outdoor, in-person option was the most preferred option by those responding to the survey. 

Mission CISD officials look forward to providing the Classes of 2020 with as normal a commencement ceremony as possible during this time.
