Letter to the Mission CISD Community

Dear Mission CISD Community,

This is one of those times, when we are in awe and cannot even begin to express our feelings of gratitude and pride as we look back at the last three months and our recently completed high school commencement ceremonies.

On behalf of the Mission CISD Board of Trustees and the District Administration, please know that we acknowledge that this has truly been a total team effort to not just continue to provide instruction to finish out the school year, but to provide our seniors with some memorable events and a commencement ceremony to be proud of!

Until the governor and education commissioner released final guidelines regarding end of year activities, final arrangements and plans could not be made. Once those guidelines were released to us, and parents and students surveyed about their preferences regarding high school graduations, the choice was clear.

While this is not the first-time ceremonies have been held at the Tom Landry Stadium, it had been many years and under very different conditions. The team required to pull off the ceremonies was large-scale. Practically every aspect of our Mission CISD operations worked collaboratively with support from the City of Mission.

The set-up, for each ceremony, sanitizing, tear down, etc. took the efforts of a very dedicated team that combined most of our personnel and departments including  the executive leadership team, maintenance, transportation, child nutrition, technology, athletics, fixed assets, Mission CISD security and security support (including law enforcement officers from Mission, Palmhurst, Alton, and Hidalgo County Precinct 3), central office employees, high school administration and staff, and the city. Our very special thanks to the City of Mission and their health department and fire department for providing mosquito spraying before day light each day of the ceremonies, generators and lights for nearby parking areas, and traffic control.

A special word of thanks also to our parents and families. Your trust in allowing us to provide for your most precious possession—your children means a great deal to us. We also thank you for working with the unusual conditions required to provide the in-person ceremonies for your graduates.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who helped make the commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2020 a reality in such a spectacular way. The tremendous support of everyone allowed for a proper sendoff while also doing what was needed to help ensure our community health.

With Gratitude,

Dr. Carol G. Perez

Superintendent
