AMJH student wins first place in UTHealth Art Contest

Alton Memorial Jr. High School 8th grade student, Briseida Castro, recently participated in the UTHealth Art/Social Media Contest in which she won first place and a $300 gift card. The Youth-led Creative Expression Contest to Prevent COVID-19 was opened to all K-12 students across the state of Texas.

“I’ve just started to get to know Briseida, but she is an incredible artist and young lady,” states Michala Hernandez, AMJH Art teacher.

The Youth-led Creative Expression Contest helps to engage youths in K-12 grades develop creative communication materials for Texas communities and it helps promote COVID-19 protective behaviors. Students had the opportunity to choose a creative channel such as social media, illustrations, photos, music videos, blogs, and others as long as it had a clear message that linked to the prevention of COVID-19.
