VMHS DECA members are service-oriented emerging leaders

Veterans Memorial High School DECA members are helping to raise awareness on the dangers of teen vaping as part of their community service-oriented project called Catch My Breath. This project focuses on a #BalloonTieChallenge that measures the strength of your lungs. Students are supposed to blow up and tie a balloon within 10 seconds and are asked to send in a video or to take a photo of their attempt. If they can’t tie the balloon, they have the option to donate to the Coordinated Approach to Child Health (CATCH) organization.

“Our DECA students are very active in their participation in community service projects and this year our students were thinking of ways to help out while maintaining pandemic restrictions,” states Sheila Lozano, VMHS DECA sponsor/teacher. “This #BalloonTieChallenge will definitely bring much awareness to the dangers of teen vaping.”

VMHS DECA along with DECA members throughout the state will promote the #BalloonTieChallenge from October through February. VMHS DECA members continue to not only be prepared as emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management but they are also 100 percent committed to serving their community.
