MCHS student is the recipient of the Texas Match the Promise Scholarship

Mission Collegiate High School (MCHS) freshman, Angela Campos, has been selected as a recipient for the Match the Promise Scholarship.  This scholarship program helps young Texans realize their dreams of a college education while encouraging families to take steps now to prepare for their child’s future.

Campos applied for the scholarship in 8th grade by sending in her grades, filling out the application and writing a 250-500 word essay.  The scholarships that are awarded are from $1000 to $1500 that aid recipients with tuition. Campos’ perseverance finally paid off when she was awarded the $1500 scholarship that will be used when she attends the university of her choice.

“I was very excited when I applied for the scholarship my 7th grade year but I didn’t get it,” states Campos. “I applied again my 8th grade year and my hard work finally paid off. It felt like a real accomplishment.”

Angela may only be a freshman this year, but when she graduates from MCHS she will have earned an Associate’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. She will then attend the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley where she will seek a Bachelor’s Degree in Science.

Once she receives her Bachelor’s degree, she will apply to medical school and her end goal is to become an anesthesiologist.  She hopes to one day come back home to work at Mission Medical Center and help patients before they go in to surgery.
