VMHS announces TMEA Region 15 band results

Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) band had several accolades this school year and band directors are extremely proud of their students’ accomplishments. VMHS band students participated in several Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) virtual competitions. 

The VMHS Band set a school record by having 21 students placed in the TMEA Region 15 Band, with eight students placing in the Honors Band, seven in the Symphonic Band, and six in the Concert Band. The results of are:

Honors Band

Daniel Martinez, Laura Barba, Grecia Mayorga, Nicolas Ochoa, Sarah Martinez-Salinas, Brandon Piña, Gabriel Sanchez, and Rodrigo Flores. 

Symphonic Band

Samantha Yáñez, Taylor Peña, Reynaldo Calderon, Manuel Flores, Alexa Beas, Dylan Wise, and Rebecca Alejos. 

Concert Band

Daniel Castillo, Zoe Ascencio, Zamira Galvan, Katelyn Adkins, Christine Zayas, and Noema Treviño. 

 

VMHS also set a school record with EIGHT students advancing to the Area G Band audition set for January.  These students are competing for a chair in the TMEA 6A/5A All-State band.  This is the highest achievement possible for student musicians in Texas.  6A is open to students in all classifications regardless of school classification and is the highest level of achievement.  Less than 2% of students who begin the process become an All-State musician.
