Mission CISD provides support for Mission COVID-19 vaccination clinic

Mission, Texas- Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) is joining with Hidalgo County and the Hidalgo County Precinct No.3 Commissioner’s Office, City of Mission, and Sharyland Independent School District (ISD) in providing a COVID-19 vaccination clinic scheduled for Thursday, January 28 at the Mission Event Center, 2425 Ruby Red Blvd, in Mission. Officials stress that elderly residents will be given top priority for this vaccination clinic.

To reduce wait times and provide for a more efficient operation, eligible residents will be required to pre-register for the Moderna vaccine beginning at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Sharyland High School, 1216 N. Shary Road. To pre-register, eligible residents must drive through the north side entrance of the Sharyland HS campus, by the tennis courts. As a COVID-19 precaution, citizens are encouraged to bring their own pen to registration. Face masks are required at all times when interacting with staff in the registration area.

During the pre-registration process, eligible residents will be issued a colored wristband displaying a designated time for them to return to the Mission Event Center, 2425 Ruby Red Blvd. on Thursday, Jan. 28 for their vaccinations.  Patrons will only be allowed into the parking area at the vaccination site 30 minutes before their designated time slots on Thursday.

Since there is a limited number of vaccines available at this time, the clinic will provide wristbands on a first come, first serve basis. Vaccine recipients must be in attendance during pre-registration to receive a wristband. Please do not attend if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, or have been exposed to someone who tested positive.

Mission will be prioritizing elderly residents, those born before 1956, for vaccinations. There will be a drive-thru lane at Mission Event Center solely for the disabled, or elderly residents that cannot walk or stand for long periods of time.

“We are proud to be able to provide over 50 district employees in support of this important community initiative,” said Dr. Carol G. Perez, superintendent. “Getting as many people vaccinated against COVID-19 as quickly as possible will help save lives and brings our community that much closer to being able to resume more normal activities. We are honored to be able to work with our community partners anytime, but now more than ever.”

Among the 50+ Mission CISD employees who have played a supporting role in the vaccination clinic are, campus nurses, clerical staff, safety/security, and members of the district’s maintenance department.

Based on previous vaccine clinics held in Hidalgo County, Mission health officials are advising the following:

  •     Bring a photo ID with DOB
  •     People are encouraged to bring water and snacks
  •     There could be periods of waiting and sitting in your vehicle
  •     Children 18 & under should not be in the clinic
  •     Those seeking vaccines with mobility concerns may bring one person to help
  •     Short sleeve encouraged
