Mission, Texas- Each Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) campus has made their selections for Teacher of the year at their school. These top educators have now been entered into the Mission CISD Teacher of the Year program. It is from this program that one elementary and one secondary teacher will be selected to represent Mission CISD in the Regional Teacher of the Year contest.
The 14 elementary Campus Teachers of the Year for this year are: Gryzell Cantu, Alton Elementary School; Raquel Tanguma, Bryan Elementary School; Laura Adams, Cantu Elementary School; Janeth Marquez, Capt. J. Castro Elementary School; Michelle Salazar, Cavazos Elementary School; Monica Cardona, Escobar/Rios Elementary School; Elizabeth Gay Adkins, Leal Elementary School of Technology and Engineering; Maria M. Garcia, Marcell Elementary School; Deborah Medina, Mims Elementary School; Illiana Gomez, Midkiff Elementary School; Glorica Villarreal, O’Grady Elementary School; Rene Garza, Pearson Elementary School; Perla Ybarra, Salinas Elementary Fine Arts Academy; Blanca Garcia, Waitz Elementary School of Media and Communications Academy.
The nine secondary Campus Teachers of the Year are: Laura Garza, Alton Memorial Jr. High School; Enidia Quintero, K. White Jr. High School; Katella Anderson, Mission Jr. High School; Amy Newport, R. Cantu Jr. High School; Samuel Hjort, Mission High School; Cynthia E. Lopez, Mission Collegiate High School; Maricela Cruz, Veterans Memorial High School; Kahlil Kalifa, Roosevelt Alternative School; David Martinez, Option Academy.
Each of these teachers has been tasked with filling out a questionnaire used in the Texas Teacher of the Year program. The questionnaire is then reviewed by a panel of judges selected from the Mission CISD community. These judges make the final selection of the two teachers to represent Mission CISD in the regional competition. The judges’ decision will be announced during National Teacher Appreciation week in May.
