VMHS swimmer breaks school record!

Mission, Texas- Veterans Memorial High School swimmer, Julio De Leon, recently broke the VMHS School record in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:03.83. The previous record holder was set by Louie Loya, a VMHS alum at 1:04.35. De Leon broke the VMHS School Record at the 2021 Region 8 Swim and Dive Meet on February 5th, 2021 in Corpus Christi, Texas at Cabaniss Natatorium during prelims.

Julio is a graduating senior at VMHS, he is a one-year boys co-captain and this year's boys captain. He has been on the swim team since his freshman year. He is a 4-time Regional Qualifier and a 2-time Regional Finalist. He is also a two-year letterman in water polo and continues to be active on campus with engineering and robotics. De Leon is under the direction of Coach Melissa Reyna.
