VMHS athlete dives her way to 10th in State

Veterans Memorial High School senior, Ryann Ramirez, took to the water and executed some incredible dives and placed 10th overall in the 2021 UIL 5A Girls State Championships. She was also named 2nd team All-State Selection in the one-meter diving. She has been a varsity one-meter diver for the Patriot Swim and Dive Team and is also the current girls team captain for the 2020-2021 season.

 

She was ranked 14th going into the competition and was able to secure 10th place with a total of 11 dives. She has been diving for four years but this is her first time as a State Qualifier. Not only has she earned various recognitions for her dives, but she also excels in her academics.

 

“The past four years I worked really hard, but I was lacking confidence. So, this year I really needed to go for it, do my best and not be afraid,” states Ryann, Ramirez. “I also needed to prove to myself and everyone else that I could do it.”

 

Ryann’s accolades include: 4x - First Team All-District Selection, 4x -Regionals Qualifier, 3x - Regionals Finalist, 3x- 2nd Team All Region Selection, 2021 - District 31-5A Diving Champion, 2021- 5A Region 8 Silver Medalist, 2021- First Team All-Region Selection, and 2x- TISCA All State Academic Team.

 

“Ryann has developed into the diver she is today because of the program’s competitiveness and support system she has created,” states Coach Melissa Reyna. “She has proven to be the definition of a student-athlete and we are extremely proud of all of her accomplishments.”

 

In addition to being a great diver Ryann is a stellar student as well and is ranked third in her class. She is also a VMHS Student Council Vice President for 2 years, a 3x member of the Patriot Cheerleaders, and member of the VMHS currently qualifying for Globals in Destination Imagination and actively competing UIL.
