Mims Elementary is committed to building their Parenting Partners program

Mims Elementary administration and staff is committed to helping develop the Parent Leadership Academy through Parenting Partners. This program focuses on providing parents with information and tools that can help them better understand their child’s needs. Although Parenting Partners could not conduct the instruction in person the classes went virtual, and parents were able to participate.

Mr. Antonio Mendez (counselor), Mrs. Claudia Alaniz (teacher) and Mrs. Sandra Ornelas (parent liaison) have worked diligently to achieve their goal of making the program more appealing to parents under a very unprecedented school year due to the pandemic. Several parents have already completed the eight workshops.

“We wanted for parents to have a supportive outlet offering guidance to build practical and positive parenting skills,” states Yvonne Zamora, Mims Elementary principal. “We are extremely proud of the collaborative efforts of our staff and parents that have made this event successful.”

Parenting Partners is a comprehensive and dynamic training for parents. It is a way for them to get involved in their children’s academic success. Parenting Partners consists of workshops with a variety of topics like parenting and leadership skills that become a vital contributor for students’ achievements. The training is based on six extensive workshops presented by a group of trained school facilitators.

Elementary schools offer this eight-week parent program through their campus. For more information on Parenting Partners contact Nancy Villarreal, F.A.C.E. Coordinator at (956) 323-5350. (A special thank you to Mrs. Monica Alvarez for her beautiful pictures.)
