MCHS students shine at UIL competition and are headed to Regionals

Mission, Texas- Mission Collegiate High School (MCHS) students competed in the UIL District 31 Conference 4A tournament this past weekend. There were four students that were named Regional Qualifiers and one Regional Alternate. Congratulations to the following students on a job well done:

 

  • Frida Cantu - Calculator Applications 5th place (Regional Alternate)
  • Danilee Alaniz - Computer Applications 2nd place (Regional Qualifier)
  • Evelyn Hernandez - Computer Applications 1st place (Regional Qualifier)
  • Adrian Heredia-Ojeda - Calculator Applications 1st place (Regional Qualifier), Mathematics 3rd place (Regional Qualifier)

 

MCHS Speech team also competed in the UIL District 31 Conference 4A tournament and was awarded the Top Speech School for accumulating the most points for speech events. The campus also had a debate duo, Angela Meshoulam Rangel and Violeta Lira, that have already qualified for State in the category of Cross Examination Debate. Congratulations to the following students:

  • Mia Adame & Abrianna Garcia - 2nd place Cross- Examination Debate (State Alternate)
  • Aylee Munoz - 3rd Place Lincoln Douglas Debate (Regional Qualifier) and 3rd Place Informative Speaking (Regional Qualifier)
  • Angela Meshoulam Rangel - 3rd place Persuasive Speaking (Regional Qualifier)
  • Cristian Arguijo - 2nd place Lincoln Douglas Debate (Regional Qualifier)
  • Ramon Pena - 2nd place Persuasive Speaking (Regional Qualifier) and 1st place Lincoln Douglas Debate (Regional Qualifier)

 

It has been a difficult year for the UIL program due to circumstances around the pandemic. It was difficult to motivate students due to the lack of in-person practices and invitational competitions. Nevertheless, many of our students found success this weekend and are on their way (virtually) to the regional tournament.
