Mission, Texas- In addition to expanding its Pre-K3 program to remove state eligibility requirements, the Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) is also planning to implement a groundbreaking new approach to early childhood education in the Rio Grande Valley.
Mission CISD is partnering with Fueling Brains to implement Ready Set Grow early childhood program into its Pre-K3, Pre-K4, Kindergarten, and some first grade classrooms. This is a scientifically proven program and approach that focuses the district’s curriculum in a way that also helps develop the brains of young children.
“Ready Set Grow really focuses our curriculum standards in a way that takes advantage of the best way young children learn,” explained Dr. Carol G. Perez, superintendent. “It is all about brain growth and development during those key, early years of brain growth. Studies continue to show that time period is key to brain development.”
Dr. Perez said the district’s early childhood teachers have been receiving, and will continue to receive, professional development sessions on implementing Ready Set Grow. Meanwhile, curriculum writers have been busy updating the district’s early childhood curriculums to take advantage of Ready Set Grow.
“One of the things that is also exciting about Ready Set Grow is it also provides a special parent portal,” Dr. Perez said. “Parents always plan an important role in a child’s learning and growth. The parent portal part of Ready Set Grow will not only give those parents insights into their child’s grades, growth, and development, but will also give them all sorts of ideas of projects and home lessons that can be done to support what their child is learning and doing in the classroom.”
Dr. Perez also said that as the district’s elementary schools implement Ready Set Grow, parents will also begin to notice changes in the physical buildings and classrooms as the new approach is taken.
“We are excited to be able to bring this world-class approach to our community,” Dr. Perez said. “This will help set a much stronger foundation for students and for their future successes.”
Parents can register their children online at, www.mcisd.net/Register/. Parents with new students to the district will need a valid form of identification, the child’s birth certificate, the child’s immunization records, proof of residence (utility bill, etc.), and the child’s social security card if one is available.
