MHS FFA students advance to state finals

Mission, Texas- The Mission High School (MHS) FFA Senior Chapter Conducting Team (Parliamentary Procedure) has had another successful season that has taken them to the state finals. 

Team members are: Jaime Calderon, president; Jorge Salinas, vice president; Alessandra Serda, secretary; Iris Torres, treasurer; Danny Garza, reporter; Kevin Calderon, sentinel; Maday Silva, student advisor; Selene Casas, member. 

Their journey to the state finals began with winning the District title in early November at the Citrus Valley District Leadership Development Events. They advanced to the Area X FFA Leadership Development Event held in Robstown on November 22. Earning a Reserver Area X Championship, qualified the team for advancement to state level competitions that were held at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. 

At the state competitions, the MHS team placed second in the semi-finals on Friday, December 3, which advanced them to the Texas FFA State Finals held on December 4. The MHS FFA Senior Chapter Conducting Team took seventh place in the state. 

MHS FFA sponsors are: Landra Rios, Yadira Zapata, Marcos Villarreal, and Benito Garza.

The Texas FFA is one of the nation’s largest state FFA associations with more than 154,000 members. FFA gives students the opportunity to apply practical classroom knowledge to real world experiences through local, state, and national competitions.
