MHS students selected for the National Youth Wind Ensemble

Three Mission High School students received incredible news this past weekend that they had been selected to perform in the National Youth Wind Ensemble (NYWE) in Washington D.C. These students submitted video auditions in December and were selected from a pool of applicants from all 50 states.

They now will travel to Washington D.C. where they will perform under the direction of Col. Jason Fettig, the director of “The President’s Own” Marine band and Dr. Kevin Sedatole, director of bands at Michigan State University. This one week intensive will culminate with a performance at the famous Warren Theater.

These students will also get to work with professional musicians in the military bands from D.C., attend the Army Twilight Tattoo, and sightsee the national monuments and museums in the area.

Students are from L-R: Camila Marin (sophomore), Abigail Valadez (senior), and Cruz Segovia (junior). Abigail and Cruz also serve as Drum Majors for the Mighty Mission Eagle Marching Band.
