Mission CISD Board of Trustees approves additional COVID leave for employees

Mission, Texas- Full-time employees of Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) who have contracted COVID-19 will have a little extra security. The Mission CISD Board of Trustees has approved a resolution granting an additional five “COVID leave days” on top of ten days that had previously been available. That means there are now up to a total of 15 “COVID Days” of leave available for qualifying full-time employees.

“Our employees have served with such heart and dedication throughout the pandemic,” explained Dr. Carol G. Perez, superintendent. “We know that individuals who have come down with COVID-19 have had to use so much of their personal leave, and in some cases all of the previously available COVID Days. So as the pandemic continues, it has become important to continue to try and support our employees as much as possible by finding a way to provide some added leave.”

Dr. Perez said the district is leveraging available Federal ESSER II funding to be able to provide the additional 5 “COVID Days” for qualifying employees who test positive for COVID-19. The resolution approved by the Board also makes the additional leave retro-active to July 1, 2021. The additional COVID-19 leave will be available through June 30, 2022. Dr. Perez also said this represents the highest level of COVID support to employees by any district in western Hidalgo County.

“I hope this really helps any of our team who has had to use all their personal leave and COVID leave due to the need to quarantine or isolate after testing positive for COVID-19,” said Dr. Perez. “Our team has been on the front lines of keeping our facilities safe and open, while also supporting community health efforts. We are so grateful for all their efforts. The administration and Board of Trustees are committed to continuing to do what we can in support of our employees.”
