Mission CISD athletes win several medals at Area 1- Special Olympics competition

It was a great weekend of competition for our district athletes this past Friday February 25th and Saturday February 26th. Mission CISD competed in the Area 1 Special Olympics Basketball Competition held at Sharyland Pioneer High School. 

  

Mission CISD had a total of 21 athletes participate in this year’s competition. On day one, our basketball team competed in the Team Tournament. Team Mission had an all-star team assembled from various campuses, which are Rafael Cantu, K-White, Mission Jr. High, Mission High School, and Veterans Memorial High School. They were outstanding in their performance, as they went on to defeat Los Fresnos and Weslaco to claim the GOLD medal!  The team members are as follows:

Day two was the individual skills competition.  This is where the athletes perform a variation of either a timed 10-meter dribble or a 60 second speed dribble, a target pass drill, and a spot shooting drill.  A total of 11 athletes competed in this competition and they did amazing. The results are as follows:

CONGRATULATIONS to all of our Special Olympians on their great performance! On behalf of the Mission CISD Special Olympics staff, we would like to thank our parents for allowing their children to participate, as well as every teacher, support staff, and administrator that contributed to the success of our athletes. A huge thanks also to Special Education Director Ms. Cruz for ensuring the athletes had everything they needed to compete this year.
