Veterans Memorial High School student, Salvador Garza, placed 2nd in the SkillsUSA welding competition. He will be advancing to the state competition in Corpus Christi on March 31,2022 - April 2,2022 in Corpus Christi. The welding contest consists of basic welding knowledge in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Oxyfuel Cutting better known as Torch cutting. Student is to perform welds and cuts using equipment and a blueprint to locate welds and cuts. Welding safety is also an important factor in competition, students are graded on safety practices.
