Mission CISD Purchasing Department leaders obtain certification

The Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD)’s Purchasing Department is continuously working towards professional growth.  Dora Garcia, Purchasing Coordinator, and Daisy Cuevas, Purchasing Specialist both signed up to take the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) Management course curriculum to obtain their Registered Texas School Business Administrator (RTSBA) certification.  The TASBO Certification program is designed to educate those seeking excellence in their profession and also to recognize standards of professional competence.

“This certification will be instrumental in my leadership position,” states Dora Garcia, Purchasing Coordinator. “TASBO courses provide day to day knowledge needed to be successful in a school district.  As a RTSBA, we must adhere to TASBO’s ethics and standards of conduct and continue our education to ensure that we are up to date with all local, state, and federal laws that govern the activities within the District.”

Mission CISD seeks continuous education for staff that not only aids them in their current positions but can also provide them the knowledge and skills for advancement. Both Garcia and Cuevas were required to take a total of 15 courses with a focus on management courses.  The RTSBA certification is a program with a series of course sessions, quizzes, and passing a final examination for each of the courses.

“These courses have helped me with my new role as a leader,” states Daisy Cuevas, Purchasing Specialist. “They have not only provided me with knowledge, but they have prepared me to help encourage my peers to grow in their roles.”

Although these two leaders have been in their roles for a short time, they have recently implemented a new electronic procurement portal, Bonfire, for vendors.  Bonfire has been working extraordinarily well and they are currently training and implementing additional features the portal has to offer.

In addition, they are working towards a paperless system that speeds up the process and makes it more efficient for everyone. The Purchasing Department has also been the recipient of TASBO’s Purchasing Award of Merit for two consecutive years for its commitment to following professional standards in the acquisition of goods and services.
