Mission CISD students compete at the 2022 Special Olympics Summer Games

Mission, Texas- Two Mission CISD students competed at the 2022 Summer Games hosted by Special Olympics Texas on May 12th-May 15th at Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio, Texas. Students from across the state attended the event and competed for the gold! The two students that attended the event are Melinda Mata from Veterans Memorial High School and Jacquelina Mata from Mission High School. 

 

Melinda Mata participated in the inaugural FUNdamental Sports Competition. She was tasked with completing a checklist of sports related games, which included: basketball, soccer, track and field, tennis, and cycling. Each station she could complete individually earned her points that were tallied at the end. Melinda completed all events and earned the high score which earned her the gold medal!  

 

Jacquelina Mata competed in the track and field 25-meter race and the softball throw. Jacquelina raced against 8 other girls from across the state of Texas and earned a 4th place finish. The following day, she competed again against another 8 girls in the soft ball throw and earned a 1st place finish!
