Eagle Choir members dedicated to earning an All-State Choir accolade

Mission, Texas- Several members of the Mission Eagle Choir have begun their journey towards possibly gaining a spot in the All-State Choir. They recently participated in the MHS All State Choir camp on Aug. 3-4 to begin learning the music for the TMEA competition. Each year, approximately 20,000 students throughout the state begin the process, which culminates in roughly 500 students earning places in one of the All-State Choir ensembles (Mixed Choir, Treble Choir, or Tenor-Bass Choir). The process consists of four singing auditions as follows:

Round 1 - District (September - Rowe HS)

Round 2 - Region (November - Rowe HS)

Round 3 - Pre-Area (November - Rowe HS)

Round 4 - Area (January - Southwest HS, San Antonio)

Each round narrows the field of students selected and becomes more difficult, with the inclusion of a sight-reading component at rounds 3 and 4.

Rounds 1-3 culminate in a local performance of the respective choirs in November. Students who earn places (“chairs”) in the All-State Choir will travel to San Antonio in February, rehearse for several days with their choir, and perform at the Texas Music Educators Association convention. Earning a place in one of the Texas All State ensembles is the highest honor a high school student can earn, and the MHS Choir team is excited to guide these young musicians every step of the way.
