Eagle Football players are committed to their sport and studies

Mission, Texas-The Mission High School Football program stresses the importance of academics before athletics, and they have been highly focused on making sure their athletes do well academically. They have created their own honor roll recognition of their football players through social media and campus announcements.

The Eagle Football players had a great 1st six weeks. A total of 16 players made the A Honor Roll list while 46 players made the A & B Honor Roll list. These players are just as committed to their studies as they are playing football.

“The Honor Roll is a list of respected people who have worked hard and I’m truly honored to be on the list,” states Sebastian Balderas, Eagle Football Captain. “It gives me an incredible feeling because it proves that I’m doing a good job as a student athlete, but it also demonstrates how well my parents have taught me to have a primary focus on my studies.”

To have over 60 players from the Eagle Football program make the Honor Roll is an incredible accomplishment. It truly speaks volumes of the players work ethic and commitment to their schoolwork and to their sport.

“A total of 40% of our athletes in the football program made the Honor Roll. This does not include that we had a 94% passing rate of 164 student athletes in the program,” states Daniel Longoria, Eagle Football Coach. “These athletes understand that they are students first and if they prioritize academics above all then they will become a better player and a better individual.”

These players will continue to dedicate their time and effort to their academics and to their sport. If the 1st six weeks is any indication of what these players can achieve, then there is no doubt they will be just as successful for the rest of the school year.
