Escobar/Rios Elementary counselor is CREST award recipient

Mission, Texas- Escobar/Rios Elementary counselor, Valerie Uresti-Rojas, is a recipient of the Counselors Reinforcing Excellence in Students in Texas (CREST) Award. She has been maximizing student success and outcomes for over 19 years. The implementation of a campus initiative called Random Acts of Kindness Challenge and everything it entails is what has won her the award.

Uresti-Rojas submitted her application that consisted of creating a website where she highlighted the school counseling initiative that was implemented on her campus. She gives a detailed explanation as to how the Random Acts of Kindness Challenge was implemented and how it covered the four general curricular content areas such as interpersonal effectiveness, intrapersonal effectiveness, personal health and safety, and postsecondary education and career readiness.

“I was very excited to get the news and grateful for this award,” states Uresti- Rojas. “The submitting process requires documentation but it is well worth it especially when you get to showcase the great things that we are doing at Escobar/Rios Elementary.”

Mrs. Valerie Uresti-Rojas along with her principal Mrs. Bianca Ramirez Cano and her family will travel to the Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA) Conference dinner on February 12, 2022, for the awards ceremony. The conference and award ceremony will be in Round Rock, Texas at the Kalahari Resort.

CREST is sponsored by the TSCA and awarded to school counseling programs that meet CREST requirements. CREST is a continuous improvement document that school counseling programs can use in order to demonstrate effective communication and a commitment to obtaining results.
