VMHS sophomore earns All-State honors

A Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) band student, David Leal, has earned a seat in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State Band. He is a VMHS sophomore and has been awarded first chair on Bb Clarinet. He now has earned the most prestigious honor that a Texas high school musician can earn of being an All-State Musician.

“I felt really good to have earned this honor because my hard work has paid off,” states VMHS band student David Leal. “I was practicing almost every day and it took a lot of hard work.”

David will represent VMHS in one of the Texas All-State ensembles, under the direction of world-renowned conductors during the TMEA State Convention in February hosted in San Antonio. He will perform in concert before thousands of attendees alongside many of the best musicians in the state of Texas.

A total of 5 VMHS Band students competed at the TMEA Area Auditions at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi against students from across the state for a chance to become a Texas All-State musician.

A huge congratulations goes out to the 5 VMHS Band students who represented the school at the Area auditions with pride and have also worked incredibly hard this past season: Grecia Mayorga, Sarah Martínez, Reynaldo Calderon, and Fernando Barsenas.
