Campus teachers of the year announced

Mission, Texas- Each Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) campus has made their selections for Teacher of the Year at their school. These top educators have now been entered into the Mission CISD Teacher of the Year program. It is from this program that one elementary and one secondary teacher will be selected to represent Mission CISD in the Regional Teacher of the Year contest.

The 14 elementary Campus Teachers of the Year for this year are: Isaac Rocha, Alton Elementary School; Veronica Martinez, Bryan Elementary School; Myling Landez, Cantu Elementary School; Nelly M. Castillo, Capt. J. Castro Elementary School; Amanda Gonzalez, Cavazos Elementary School Health Science Academy; Joanna Guel, Escobar/Rios Elementary Project Based Learning Academy; Bertha A. Torres, Leal Elementary School of Technology and Engineering; Maria M. Garcia, Marcell Elementary Global Leadership Academy; Christine Montemayor, Midkiff Elementary School; Claudia Alaniz-Sanchez, Mims Elementary School; Irma Gonzalez, O’Grady Elementary School of Humanities and Social Studies; Elizandro Flores, Pearson Elementary Sports/Health Academy; Hortencia Morales, Salinas Elementary Fine Arts Academy; Armandina J. Garcia, Waitz Elementary Media and Communications Academy.

The eight secondary Campus Teachers of the Year are: Monica Alafa, Alton Memorial Jr. High School; Sonia Rodriguez, K. White Jr. High School STEAM Academy; Jennifer Condes, Mission Jr. High School; Olga L. Escobedo, R. Cantu Jr. High School STEAM and World Language Academy; Ivonne Villa, Mission Collegiate High School; Margarita Longoria, Mission High School; Ruben Amaro, Veterans Memorial High School; Laura Mari Vargas, Roosevelt Alternative School.

Each of these teachers has been tasked with filling out a questionnaire used in the Texas Teacher of the Year program. The questionnaire is then reviewed by a panel of judges selected from the Mission CISD community. These judges make the final selection of the two teachers to represent Mission CISD in the regional competition. The judges’ decision will be announced during National Teacher Appreciation week in May.
