Mission CISD Teacher Incentive Allotment designation approved by TEA

Program allows top-performing educators an opportunity to earn six-figure salaries

Mission, Texas- Top-performing teachers in Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) now have the opportunity to earn six-figure salaries. The district has been approved for the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) program.

The TIA was created in 2019 through House Bill 3 during the 86th Texas Legislature as a method of recognizing effective teachers in the state. The program not only provides a pathway for high-performing teachers to earn six-figure salaries, but it can also aid rural and high-need areas in recruiting and retaining highly effective teachers.

The TEA approval for Mission CISD caps a multi-year application process of data collections, and plan developments that meet strict state statutory and regulatory requirements. All data is validated by Texas Tech University and reviewed by TEA as a part of the approval process.

“We are excited to have been approved for the TIA,” said Dr. Carol G. Perez, superintendent. “Retaining highly qualified teachers has been a priority for the district, and this should greatly enhance those efforts. Being able to provide qualifying teachers with this type of compensation becomes a win for the teachers, a win for the district, and a huge win for the students who get to benefit from the dedication and knowledge of the teachers.”

The Mission CISD Local Designation System offers three possible designations, based upon levels of performance in teacher observations and student performance. Those designation bonus amounts are:

  1. Recognized range from $4,610-$8,239
  2. Exemplary range from $9,219-$16,478
  3. Master range from $17,366-$29,464

TEA will notify Mission CISD teachers who qualify for the TIA by May of this year. Teachers will receive their TIA payments after the start of the 2023-2024 school year, as they must remain in the classroom to receive the TIA.

The top five percent of qualifying Mission CISD teachers have received the Master designation. The next 10 percent have received the Exemplary designation, and the next 15 percent have received the Recognized designation. Approximately 30 percent of district applicants have been awarded.

Once a Mission CISD teacher receives their designation as a Master, Exemplary, or Recognized teacher, the designation will appear on the State Board of Education certification for the teacher. Teachers who are designated will remain so in future years as long as they stay in the classroom and with Mission CISD. Qualifying teachers can move up in designation, based upon the annual data reviews, but cannot move down during the five-year designation period. Once a teacher is designated, the monetary award will be paid out in August for five years as long as the teacher continues to teach. Additional teachers may qualify each year throughout the district’s designation approval, based upon the annual data review.
