KWJH student is State bound for MathCounts

Kenneth White Jr. High student, Juliet Suarez, qualifies for the State competition for MathCounts. She qualified at the Chapter level as the Top Individual and is the only one moving on from this area in this category. She will be advancing and will compete in Austin, Texas on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

“I consider this a great achievement that I get to represent my school, district, and community at the state level,” states Juliet Suarez, KWJH 8th grader. “MathCounts takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and practice but it’s worth it. It’s a great experience and lots of fun.”

Juliet has been competing in MathCounts since her 7th grade year at KWJH. She states that when she first started she couldn’t get through the whole test in the time that was allotted but now a few years later she is state bound.

“MathCounts is a very challenging program but to have kids like Juliet make it to the state level is pretty amazing,” states Adrian Chapa, MathCounts coach. “Juliet is really bright, and she puts in the hard work. She has improved so much from when she first started and I’m so proud of her.”

Both Chapa and Suarez agree that if you are interested in MathCounts then you just have to try it. It may be difficult at first but the more you practice and stick with it the better you will become at it.

The future holds many possibilities for Juliet but first up she plans to attend Texas A & M when she graduates from high school. She aspires to be an architect one day after she obtains her degree.
