Mission CISD reminds community of sales tax holiday scheduled for August 11-13, 2023

MISSION, TEXAS -The tax-free weekend is right around the corner. Mission Consolidated Independent School District would like to remind families about the possible savings that can be applied when shopping for back-to-school items.

Qualifying items can be purchased tax-free from a Texas store or from an online or catalog seller doing business in Texas. In most cases, patrons do not need to give the seller an exemption certificate to buy qualifying items tax free.

This year’s sales tax holiday begins Friday, August 11, and goes through midnight Sunday, August 13. The sales tax exemption applies only to qualifying items including:

  • * Clothing
  • * Footwear
  • * School Supplies
  • * Backpacks
  • * Facemasks, and other items

Items families purchase before or after the sales tax holiday do not qualify for exemption, and there is no tax refund available.

More information about items that qualify and do not qualify for tax free purchases during this special period can be found online at, www.comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/publications/98-490/.
