Raquel Cavazos Elementary School Celebrates 20 Years of Excellence

MISSION, TEXAS (Feb. 6, 2024) - Raquel Cavazos Elementary School commemorated a significant milestone on February 5, 2024, as it celebrated its 20th anniversary. The evening's festivities coincided with what would have been the 74th birthday of the school's namesake, Raquel Cavazos.

Established in September 2003, Raquel Cavazos Elementary School was named after Raquel Cavazos, a dedicated educator whose legacy continues to inspire the Mission CISD community. Born on February 5, 1950, Raquel attended Roosevelt Elementary, Mission Junior High, and graduated from Mission High School in May 1969. She pursued her passion for education, earning a teaching degree from the University of Texas-Pan American in May 1973.

Raquel's impact on the community extended beyond her academic achievements. For 19 years, she served as a special education teacher within Mission CISD, leaving a mark on generations of students and colleagues alike.

The anniversary celebration, held in the school's parking lot area, drew together many attendees, including current students, faculty, staff, alumni and family members of Raquel Cavazos.

Adding to the festivities were several performances, including routines from the Mission High School Cheer and Dance teams, as well as special performances from Raquel Cavazos' Folklorico and Choir. These performances served as a testament to the talent present within the school community.

The celebration was not only a tribute to the past but also a reaffirmation of the school's commitment to nurturing future generations of learners and leaders.
