Leading the Way in Fiscal Management: Mission CISD Wins ASBO International Meritorious Budget Distinction

MISSION, TEXAS (MARCH 27, 2024) - The Mission Consolidated Independent School District (MCISD) announces its Finance Department earned the Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for the 2023–2024 fiscal year. This accolade underscores Mission CISD's dedication to presenting clear, transparent, and excellent budget presentation practices.

The MBA, conferred by the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO), celebrates excellence in school budget presentation. It sets high standards for districts to develop, analyze, and share their budgets comprehensively and accurately with the community.

Dr. Carol G. Perez, Superintendent of Schools for Mission CISD, expressed her pride in the diligent work and dedication invested in the budget presentation. "Every year, our priority is not only to maximize the use of taxpayer funds in serving our students but also to ensure transparency throughout the process," she stated. "We strive to present information in a manner that is easily comprehensible to the general public."

The application materials for the Meritorious Budget Award are reviewed by school business professionals who have received additional MBA criteria-specific training from ASBO International. After your Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) application is received, the review process takes approximately 3–6 months to complete. The MBA is awarded when the review team concludes that the budget documentation has met or exceeded the MBA criteria.

"We are incredibly proud of this achievement and the recognition it brings to our district," stated Joel Garcia, Deputy Superintendent of Business & Support Services. "Earning the Meritorious Budget Award reflects our ongoing commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparent financial practices, ultimately providing the best possible educational experience for every student and our community."
