Mission CISD bolsters safety measures with completion of security vestibules

MISSION, TEXAS (APRIL 9, 2024) In an effort to explore additional safety and security measures for students and staff, Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) announces the completion of the security vestibule installations at all 22 campuses

The recent installation of security vestibules at 12 campuses has now resulted in all Mission CISD campuses having the extra security measure completing the 4-year project.

The estimated $700,000 initiative represents the district's commitment to the safety and well-being of students and staff.

Director of Security, Safety, and Emergency Management at Mission CISD, Martin Castañeda said how this proactive measure is keeping students safe and supported.

The vestibules are more than just an infrastructure update; it's a crucial part of our ongoing effort to create a secure learning environment," Castañeda said, "These vestibules offer an effective layer of security, ensuring that all visitors are properly vetted before gaining access to our schools. We thank Dr. Carol G. Perez our superintendent and our Mission CISD Board of Trustees for supporting this project."

Assistant Superintendent of Operations, Ricardo Rivera, emphasized the significance of the project and what it means for the district.

"We are happy this project is complete and that all campuses are equipped with front door security cameras and call buttons where front office staff will need to activate locking mechanisms to allow entrance into the campus,” Rivera said. “The construction of vestibules will serve as an additional safety measure against possible intruders.”

The district's investment has been met with support. Mission CISD Bryan Elementary Parent Jacklyn Cantu says safety is important.

"As a first-time parent, I had a lot of anxiety sending my kid to school just because of the state of the world right now,” Cantu said. “We want our kids to go to school and to come homeThat is the most important thing.

Mission CISD plans to continue efforts in assessing and enhancing school security measures, adhering to Texas Education Agency (TEA) and state security recommendations
