MISSION, TEXAS (May 2, 2024) - Veterans Memorial High School Senior, Christine Zayas, was left speechless as the Texas National Bank (TNB) Foundation unveiled a “life-changing” scholarship to support her pursuit of higher education.
Surrounded by loved ones, Mission CISD administration, faculty, and members of the TNB Foundation, Zayas was awarded an estimated $50,000 scholarship to Texas A&M University.
"I couldn't believe it," Zayas said. "Attending Texas A&M University has been my dream since the 5th grade, and I'm so happy that it is coming true."
The TNB Foundation's scholarship program aims to assist high school seniors and undergraduate students from the Rio Grande Valley, providing essential financial support to empower them throughout their educational journey.
For Zayas, this opportunity opens doors to a future in pharmacy and to one day become a pharmaceutical scientist.
Veterans Memorial High School Principal, Fidel Garza, expressed gratitude for the foundation's support and highlighted the transformative impact it would have on Zayas' life.
"This is amazing news, and we are thankful to the TNB Foundation for this opportunity for Christine," Garza said. "Christine, we are cheering you on, go out and change the world."
TNB Foundation President, Rey Garcia, expressed the foundation's dedication to making a meaningful impact on the community through giving back.
"It's great for us to give back to the community in a meaningful way, and we couldn't think of a more deserving student than Christine," Garcia said.
Established in January 2023, the TNB Foundation is a Texas non-profit organization dedicated to making a positive impact in the Rio Grande Valley community. Led by natives who understand the region's needs, the foundation prioritizes education, affordable housing, and support for small businesses.
As she prepares to embark on her journey at Texas A&M University, Zayas serves as an inspiration to aspiring students and a testament to the transformative power of education.
