MISSION, TEXAS (May 24, 2024) - The math team at Kenneth White Jr. High has once again secured 2nd place as a team in Calculator Applications at the TMSCA (Texas Math & Science Coaches Association) State meet held, April 13, 2024.
With 31 students qualifying for the state meet, Kenneth White Jr. High demonstrated their mathematical skills by clinching the top team award in general math and calculator applications during the qualifier season. This marks the 10th consecutive year that the team has claimed the regional title in calculator applications.
Notably, 16 students from Kenneth White Jr. High were recognized for their individual performances in calculator applications. These students, who excelled in their respective grade levels, were honored with awards for their remarkable achievements at the state meet.
The following students earned an individual award for their performances:
6th Grade:
- Angel Romero (2nd place)
- Emma Garcia (8th place)
- Jorge Suarez (12th place)
- Isla Diaz (15th place)
- Emma Robles (16th place)
- Jason Luna (20th place)
7th Grade:
- Joel Trigo (3rd place)
- Lina Villarreal (8th place)
- Madison Luna (9th place)
- Karyme Jimenez (10th place)
8th Grade:
- Fredy Cortes (6th place)
- Nathan Alvarado (7th place)
- Victor Mireles (8th place)
- Leila Morales (12th place)
- Lucas Garcia (17th place)
- Natalie Salinas (18th place)
The team consisting of Fredy Cortes, Nathan Alvarado, Victor Mireles, and Joel Trigo demonstrated teamwork and skill, securing a 2nd place finish.
As Kenneth White Jr. High looks towards the future, they extend an invitation to incoming 6th grade students for the 2024-2025 school year who are interested in joining the math team.
