Mission CISD Names Dr. Cris Valdez as Interim Superintendent of Schools

 

MISSION, TEXAS (May 31, 2024)  – The Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Cris Valdez as the Interim Superintendent of Schools.

Dr. Valdez brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to educational excellence to her new role, ensuring a seamless transition and continued progress for the District.

Dr. Valdez has a distinguished career in educational leadership. Most recently, she served as the Deputy Director of Curriculum, Instruction & Accountability for Region One Education Service Center (ESC), where she was responsible for overseeing educational programs and ensuring high standards of academic performance. Her role at Region One ESC highlights her dedication to advancing education through strategic leadership and support for school districts across the region.

Prior to her position at Region One ESC, Dr. Valdez served as the interim superintendent for Weslaco ISD during the pandemic, where she demonstrated exceptional leadership during a period of significant disruption. Her tenure in Weslaco was marked by her ability to maintain stability and focus on student achievement amidst administrative changes and challenges of a global pandemic.

Dr. Valdez's extensive experience includes serving as the Assistant Superintendent of Schools for both Garland ISD and Mission CISD, where she played a key role in developing and implementing instructional strategies that improved student outcomes. Additionally, she has served as a principal, bilingual coordinator, assistant principal, teacher, and athletic coach in Weslaco ISD. Her broad range of experience provides her with a deep understanding of the needs and challenges faced by educators and students alike.

The Board of Trustees expressed confidence in Dr. Valdez’s ability to lead Mission CISD forward.
