MISSION, TEXAS (August 20, 2024) - Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) took part in a press conference hosted by the Mission Police Department, reaffirming law enforcement's commitment to ensuring student safety in the upcoming school year.
Mission CISD's Director of Safety & Security Emergency Management, Martin Castañeda, stood alongside representatives from local law enforcement agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety and Border Patrol, united in their primary goal of creating an environment that fosters education, learning, and growth.
"The district has been collaborating with Mission Police by allowing them to use our campuses for drills in preparation for the upcoming school year," said Castañeda. "We look forward to continuing these collaborative meetings, where we can share strategies with the community on identifying false alarms and online threats, working closely with local agencies."
Mission CISD Interim Superintendent, Dr. Cris Valdez, also participated in the conversation on safety. Dr. Valdez emphasized that fostering a culture of safety is a collective effort.
"It takes all of us—parents, students, the community, and faculty and staff—to guarantee the safety of our students," Valdez shared. "I appreciate all safety officials and the City of Mission for their commitment to creating safe learning environments for everyone."
Mission CISD has recently implemented several safety initiatives to enhance student security, including fencing upgrades, the installation of shatter-resistant film, and the introduction of a silent panic alert system.
