Mission CISD's Battle of Conway

MISSION, TEXAS (September 4, 2024) - The Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) community came together for an unforgettable evening at Tom Landry Hall of Fame Stadium as the Mission High School Eagles went head-to-head against the Veterans Memorial High School Patriots in the annual Battle of Conway on Friday, August 30, 2024.

The event not only showcased the talent and spirit of Mission CISD’s high school football teams but also kicked off the year-long celebration of 100 Years of Tom Landry.

As a football legend from Mission, Texas, Tom Landry has left a lasting impact on the game. Tom Landry Stadium, named in his honor, is the home field for the Eagles and Patriots and is the only high school football field in the country outside of Canton, Ohio to display the Pro Football Hall of Fame logo, according to Pro Football Hall of Fame.

In addition to the football game, the evening featured a special Tom Landry Look-Alike Contest. The winners of the contest were:

  • 1st Place: Master Sergeant Jose Trevino
  • 2nd Place: Roy Diaz
  • 3rd Place: Hiram Burguete

The event also included a preview of the upcoming marching season as the high school marching bands performed a teaser of their season shows.

"The Battle of Conway was a fantastic showcase of the skill and dedication of our Mission CISD high school football teams," said Dr. Cris Valdez, Lone Finalist Superintendent of Mission CISD. "It also gave us a chance to honor Tom Landry's legacy and the strong community spirit he represents.”

The Mission High School Eagles secured the win with a final score of 23-21 against the Patriots.
