Mission CISD Goes Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness

MISSION, TEXAS (September 16, 2024) – Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) paid tribute to its students bravely battling cancer during the football game on September 13, 2024, against the PSJA Bears, in a heartfelt observance of Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The stadium was beautifully adorned with gold ribbons, bows, and signs, all symbolizing support for childhood cancer awareness. Players, coaches, and attendees joined the movement, donning gold sweatbands, ribbons, and buttons as a powerful statement of solidarity.

This special recognition event was held in collaboration with the Greater Gold Foundation, an organization dedicated to raising awareness and supporting those affected by childhood cancer. According to the American Childhood Cancer Organization, over 15,000 children in the U.S., from birth to age 19, are diagnosed with cancer every year.

During a moving centerfield ceremony, eleven Mission CISD students were honored for their resilience and courage in the face of this life-altering battle:

  • Dayanna Alvarez
  • Lauren Gonzalez
  • Larissa Martinez
  • Maisie Martinez
  • Maritza Montejano
  • Sebastian Sanchez
  • Encelia (CeCe) Santore
  • Judah Vasquez
  • Ellis Villarreal
  • Jorge Adame Patlan
  • Yulianna Ulloa

Additionally, the family of Nathan Dominic Camargo, a beloved Alton Elementary student who passed away last year, was recognized and honored for their strength.

Mission CISD stands with these brave students and their families, supporting the fighters and remembering those we’ve lost, as we continue to live by the motto: NEVER GIVE UP HOPE.
