Mission CISD Parent, Isela Hernandez, honored with Heroes for Children Award

MISSION, TEXAS (October 11, 2024) – The Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) recognized Mission CISD parent, Isela Hernandez, as one of the distinguished recipients of the 2024 Heroes for Children Award at its general meeting held from September 10-13. 

 This award, which has been honoring outstanding individuals for over three decades, highlights the impactful volunteer contributions that have shaped the futures of Texas public school students. 

The Heroes for Children Award recognizes individuals across Texas who have demonstrated exceptional volunteerism in public schools, supporting educational initiatives and fostering student success. Recipients have engaged in meaningful acts of service, from leading parent-teacher organizations to advocating for educational improvements, promoting literacy, and mentoring students on post-graduation goals. 

Mission CISD Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Cris Valdez commended Hernandez for her tireless efforts.  

Isela Hernandez has been a pillar of the Mission CISD community for more than 12 years, volunteering in multiple capacities to meet the evolving needs of students, families, and educators,” Valdez said at the Oct. 9, 2024, Mission CISD board meeting.  

From organizing fundraising events to coordinating classroom activities and leading special projects, Hernandez’s tireless dedication has left a lasting impact. Her leadership has not only helped execute critical initiatives but has also inspired other parents to engage more deeply with the school community, bridging gaps between families and educators,” she said.  

Hernandez was nominated for the award by Mission CISD Family and Community Engagement (FaCE) and Migrant Coordinator, Nancy Villarreal, who recognized her extraordinary commitment and service.  

“We are all so proud of Ms. Hernandez,” Villarreal said. “Her sustained enthusiasm and ability to manage diverse tasks with grace have made her an invaluable asset to the Mission CISD community!” 

“As we celebrate 30 years of this distinguished award, we honor the extraordinary service of individuals like Isela, who have gone above and beyond to support our school systems and uphold our Texas values,” said SBOE Chairperson Aaron Kinsey. “Their efforts remind all of us of the significant impact that dedicated individuals can have on the lives of Texas children.” 

The Mission CISD community congratulates Isela Hernandez on this well-deserved recognition and thanks her for her continued service and unwavering support of our schools.
