MISSION, TEXAS (October 21, 2024) - After months of rehearsals, refining their musical skills, and perfecting choreography, the Mission CISD Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) Patriot Band and Mission High School (MHS) Eagle Band had their moment to shine at the UIL Region 15 West Zone Pigskin Jubilee Marching Band Competition, held on October 19 at Tom Landry Stadium.
Both bands earned Division One – Superior ratings, qualifying them for the next round in the Area competition.
In the competition, marching bands are evaluated on tone, musicianship, and marching precision. Scores are based not only on musical performance but also on the bands' ability to execute marching drills with cohesion and skill according to the UIL advancement process. This year’s event saw both the Patriot Band and Eagle Band deliver standout performances, impressing judges with their artistry and technical ability.
The VMHS Patriot Band, under the direction of Head Band Director Gabriel Molina, presented their show titled "Edu-Phoria". Leading the band in their performance were Drum Majors Z’nia Medina, Julissa Torres, and David Leal.
Meanwhile, the Eagle Band, led by Head Band Director Dr. Saul Torres, presented their show, "Mad Wyrld". The band was guided by Drum Majors Alyson Santana, Mayleen Santiago, and Triston Escalera.
Carlos Garcia, Mission CISD Director for Fine Arts, praised both bands for their achievements, saying, “These students have demonstrated incredible dedication, discipline, and passion for their musical craft. Earning superior ratings is not just a reflection of their talent but also of the leadership of our band directors and drum majors. We are so proud of their accomplishments and look forward to seeing them continue to excel at the upcoming area competition!”
Both the VMHS Patriot Band and MHS Eagle Band will now advance to the UIL 5A Area G Marching Contest, set to take place on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Tiger Stadium in Mercedes, Texas. The bands will compete for a chance to advance to the state level, with high hopes of continuing their successful season.
