MISSION, TEXAS (November 18, 2024) - Have you ever wondered how much of an impact parents and families can have on a child’s education? Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) is proud to celebrate National Parental Involvement Day on November 21, 2024, to highlight the incredible contributions of families and guardians in our students' lives.
National Parental Involvement Day was established to raise awareness about the importance of family engagement in education, and Mission CISD continues to advocate for and promote this vital connection. Over the years, Mission CISD has seen the significant difference engaged parents can make in their children's education. From assisting with homework and attending parent-teacher conferences to volunteering at school events, parents play a unique and valuable role in fostering student success. Currently, the district has 320 volunteers, and that number continues to grow.
“Research states that the more parents are involved in their child’s education the more successful their children will be in school and in life,” said Nancy Villarreal, MCISD Family and Community Engagement & Migrant Coordinator. To support parents in their involvement, Villarreal shares five best practices to assist parents with their involvement:
- 1. Establish Open Communication with Teachers: Regular communication with teachers builds a strong partnership focused on student success.
- 2. Create a Positive Learning Environment at Home: A supportive and encouraging home environment fosters better learning habits.
- 3. Support Homework and Study Habits: Helping children develop good study habits lays the foundation for academic success.
- 4. Encourage Reading and Learning Outside of the Classroom: Promoting curiosity and learning outside of school enhances students' love for knowledge.
- 5. Be an Advocate for Your Child’s Needs: Understanding and advocating for a child’s needs ensures they receive the best support possible.
Mission CISD encourages parents, educators, and community members to join in this celebration of family engagement and to continue promoting parental involvement throughout the school year. By working together, we can create meaningful and lasting change in our students' education.
