MISSION, TEXAS (Dec. 18, 2024) - The Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) Department of Guidance and Counseling announces the recognition of exemplary counselors and campuses with the Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas Award (CREST) for their outstanding Counseling Programs in the 2023-2024 school year. These distinguished honorees will be formally presented with their awards during a special ceremony scheduled for February 2, 2025, in Galveston, Texas.
The following Elementary Campuses and Counselors have been honored with the CREST Award:
- Pearson Elementary School - Lina Soza-Candelaria
- Bryan Elementary School - Priscilla Aguirre and Fabiola Salinas
- Escobar/Rios Elementary School - Karina Gaona
- Leo Marcell Elementary School - Sylvia Gonzalez
- Hurla M. Midkiff Elementary - Kimberly Langley and Anabel Margo-Uribe
- Charles H. Mims Elementary School - Paola Rubio and Ana Garza Zuniga
Additionally, Secondary Campuses recognized for their exceptional counseling programs are:
- Kenneth White Junior High - Liza Garcia, Debra Navarro and Anita Trevino
- Mission Collegiate High School - Crystalin Flores and Selene Villarreal
- Mission High School - Claudia Alonzo, Liz Acosta, Maria Barrera, Priscilla Betancourt, Elizabeth Carranza, Katherine De Anda, Ruby Madrigal and Aida Zavala
- Veterans Memorial High School - Rita Santillan Perez, Jessica De La Garza, Dina Gallardo, Jesus Garza, Lizette Garza, Cristina Gutierrez and Dawn Hill-Varlack
Mission CISD Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Cris Valdez, emphasized the significance of this award.
“The CREST Award is a recognition of the dedication and tireless efforts of our counselors and campuses,” said Valdez. “It highlights their ongoing commitment to improving counseling programs and the lasting, positive impact they have on the lives of our students.”
The CREST Award, an acronym for Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas, serves as a benchmark for counseling programs' continuous improvement. It provides an avenue for schools to demonstrate effective communication, commitment to obtaining results, and implementation of the Texas and National models for school counseling programs.
The CREST evaluation process encompasses five key categories:
- Introduction to the School and the Role of the Professional School Counselor
- Program Implementation Cycle
- Foundational Components
- Four Service Delivery Components
- Program Curriculum
Mission CISD Guidance and Counseling Director, Jesse Trevino, congratulates all the recipients of the CREST Award.
