Partnership Strengthened: Mission CISD, Region One ESC, and South Texas College advance Crib-to-College Program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mission, Texas (January 16, 2025) – Mission Consolidated Independent School District (Mission CISD), in collaboration with Region One Education Service Center, South Texas College (STC), and partnering early childhood learning centers, celebrated a significant milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and an STC Flag Raising Ceremony at Cavazos Elementary School.

The Crib to College program is an innovative initiative designed to create a seamless educational pipeline, guiding students from early childhood learning centers to kindergarten and beyond.

The Crib to College program introduces Texas-certified Pre-K partnership teachers to early childcare facilities, delivering Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 curriculum. For the 2024-2025 school year, students enrolled in the program will receive half-day instruction at no cost to parents.

“We are transforming generations of children here in Mission CISD,” said Dr. Cris Valdez, Mission CISD Superintendent of Schools. “By partnering with South Texas College, Region One, our early childcare collaborators, and our Mission CISD Board of Trustees, I truly believe we are making a lasting difference and elevating the entire region for a brighter future.”

The four early childcare facilities that participated in today’s MOU signing include:

  • RGV Learning Institute
  • Gingerbread House Learning Center Montessori
  • Apple Tree Academy
  • Kidz Crusade Children & Pre-K Academy

These new childcare facilities will join our four existing centers currently part of the program: Dreamland Learning Center, The Little Club Development Center, Kid’s Cottage Child Development Center, and Kidz First Child Care Center.

Dr. Daniel P. King, Executive Director for Region One ESC emphasized the significance of strong educational partnerships, stating, “It’s a win for everyone, but most of all, it’s a win for the children. Great things are happening for these young students, and history is being made with even greater things to come.”

Benefits of the Crib to College initiative include:

  • High-quality Pre-K education to facilitate a smooth transition into kindergarten.
  • Seamless experiences with consistent care throughout the day, including before- and after-school programs.
  • Flexible schedules designed for working families, offering full-day care.
  • Aligned curriculum with local schools, preparing children for academic success.

Flag Raising Ceremony

Following the MOU signing, the event transitioned into the symbolic Flag Raising Ceremony, led by South Texas College.

Dr. Ricardo J. Solis, President of South Texas College, shared an inspiring message with students at Cavazos Elementary School. “You’re going to college, and you’ll have the opportunity to pursue whatever you dream! College will open doors for you, and we’re excited to help make your career a reality.”

Dr. Rebbecca De Leon, South Texas College Associate Vice President of Dual Credit Programs and School District Partnerships led the College Oath, encouraging students to pledge their commitment to pursuing higher education.

The event was a true culmination of the program's intention – to prepare students for success and college readiness from kindergarten and beyond.
